A Study of Mini-Mental State of Normal Korean Population


Abstract
The author translated the Mini-Mental State of Folstein for the purpose of checking out the cognitive impairment of organic mental disorders, and tested it to 200 normal people (105 men and 95 women) in Daejeon, and Daeduk-Gun area of Chungnam province.
The total score and the score per item of Mini-Mental State were classified into 4 age groups : 20~34, 35~44, 45~64, and above 65 years old.
After statistically analyzing the scores, the results are summarized as follows;
1. General cognitive function was gradually decreased as growing old, and decreased remarkably at about 65 years old.
2. General cognitive function began to decrease in the 45~64 age group, and it was the item "Recall" that decreased for the first time among all the items.
